Joint Development of Innovative Naphtha Cracking Technology “M-Cracker” Using Microwave Heating Adopted by NEDO
Microwave Chemical Co., Ltd., Chiyoda Corporation, and Mitsui Chemicals Group have recently started the development of a new-age, innovative naphtha cracker using microwave heating. The new-age naphtha cracker called M-cracker will use microwave energy for heating, contrary to direct heating of the reaction fields, which helps reduce carbon emissions.
Crackers contribute more than 270 million metric tons (MMt) of CO2 emissions per year globally. The new technology will help to reduce carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. The M-cracker is still in the concept stage, but it will be enhanced by incorporating advanced catalytic naphtha-cracking technology developed by Chiyoda Corporation.
