Safety in Automotive Industry
In the automotive sector, safety is a top priority, and when an accident occurs, an investigation is essential to identify any flaws in the safety systems. Airbag deployment in the event of an accident is one of the most crucial safety features. Any piece of debris inside the airbag can cause injury to the driver’s or passenger’s face because the speed of deployment is similar to an explosion. A similar incident involving Takata (a Japanese supplier of safety systems) was reported in the US. The company has also declared bankruptcy as a result of high fines and recall-related problems.
Some recent accident investigation reports have shown similar cases, and airbag inflator manufacturers ARC Automotive and Delphi Automotive Systems were highlighted. The suppliers, however, have denied it, and further information is awaited. If found guilty, US authorities want to recall 52 million airbag inflators made between 2000 and 2018, provided by the two companies.
